Resolution of the 5th World Conference

Resolution on Rape & Murder of a doctor in Kolkata

ICOR,

This world conference condemns in strongest terms the rape and murder of a young female doctor inside a govt hospital of Kolkata on 9.8.2024. It has generated a widescale people’s movement in Bengal in particular & India in general. Coming in the immediate aftermath of Bangladesh uprising, the massive & passionate participation of people of all walks of life, specially women, has brought to the fore some fundamental questions, viz., nexus of medical-pharmaceutical mafia with political establishment of the state & the centre, patriarchy ruling the roost everywhere – presently forcefully patronised by the ruling fascist-communal dispensation, & so on & so forth. This World Conference takes note that the agitating women have not only identified Brahminical-Manuvadi-patriarchal ideology for the continuous attacks upon women, but has also charged the ruling BJP-RSS dispensation with patronising & safeguarding the rapists/murderers of Muslim women in Gujarat & Unnao, Dalit women in Uttar Pradesh & Kuki women in Manipur etc. This World Conference condemns all these rapes & murders, and supports unequivocally the movements for justice & gender equality, as raised by the women & junior doctors. ICOR upholds dignity of women as equal human beings.
