Dear colleagues, dear election supporters,

Never since 1945 has there been an election campaign in such a situation of transformation in world politics. The presidency of the fascist Donald Trump in the USA is a major break for world politics: the USA is aggressively interfering everywhere in line with its fascist course. The fascist AfD was pushed directly and indirectly from abroad, especially by Trump, Musk and Vance, but also by Chinese monopolies, for example via tiktok. The world economic and financial crisis is intensifying, as are the global environmental catastrophe and the threat of a third world war.

In the federal elections, the traffic light coalition government was heavily punished

With 16.5% of the vote, the SPD achieved its worst results since 1887, and the Greens also lost votes. After the elections, the open political crisis continues. If Merz, as designated chancellor, refrains from entering into a coalition with the fascist AfD, then he must bring the SPD into the new government. However, the CDU/CSU and SPD had mobilized their mass base in strong competition with each other in the election campaign. The SPD had to play the social card in the election campaign in order to avoid an even more drastic collapse. It will be complicated to implement the reactionary turnabout demanded by the monopolies with their support.

All parties that voted together with the AfD for a proto-fascist refugee policy in January were punished: the CDU/CSU dropped from 32% in the polls at a time to 28.6% and got its secondworst result since World War II; the BSW failed to enter the Bundestag by a narrow margin, and the FDP was swept out magnificently. The AfD fell from 23% in the opinion polls to 20.8%. These are successes of the antifascist mass protests, which the MLPD very actively promoted in the election campaign. The Left Party gained massively in this process as an antifascist force. In January it was still at 3%, now it got 8.8%. Among first-time voters, it became the strongest party.

The fascist danger is acutely intensifying

At the same time, for the first time since Hitlerite fascism, a fascist party, the AfD, became the second strongest force in the federal elections, in the East, it is the strongest force. Among workers it received 38% of their votes. The fascist danger is acutely intensifying.

Private mass media like Springer (the newspapers Bild, Welt ...) as well as, what is new, the public broadcasting networks are treating the AfD like a normal party instead of ostracizing fascism. Elections in Germany have never been manipulated as much as this time! Although the election campaign was much shorter than usual, there have never been so many TV specials on it, combined with social media campaigns costing millions. The socialist alternative, the MLPD, was completely ignored in almost all reports.

Make Socialism Great Again

The MLPD participated in this election campaign under the slogan: “Make socialism great again!” This was a call to fight against the threat of fascism, the preparation of a world war and for genuine socialism.

The Central Committee warmly congratulates all campaign supporters on the successful winter election campaign! The MLPD demonstrated its unique fighting strength by collecting 50,000 signatures for its election registration in just a few weeks, thus running in all federal states and with direct candidates in 74 electoral districts. We emerged victorious from the fight against the anticommunist attack on our party status by the Federal Election Committee. Our factory party groups were at the forefront of the fight against job destruction in industry.

The entire party made a formative contribution to the antifascist mass movement and took a stand against the genocide in Gaza. We did not go along with banning the environmental question from the election campaign and attacked those who are responsible for the global environmental catastrophe and climate deniers. In addition to demonstrations, we also went into the neighborhoods, attacked the AfD and waged a massive struggle over the mode of thinking. This is the correct method, instead of the one used by most bourgeois parties, which increasingly adopt AfD positions or react defensively! For us, rank-and-file work and persuasion work were the key! While the five largest bourgeois parties spent a budget totaling €74 million on their election campaign, we spent a mere €300,000 coming from individual donations, but we ran our election campaign with an extraordinarily motivated and committed team of election helpers! The culturally-rich election campaign with concerts, celebrations and rallies with best culinary supply also contributed to this.

The Internationalist List/MLPD received a total of 44,000 votes

We received 24,208 first votes compared to 22,745 in 2021, although we only ran 74 direct candidates compared to 144 in 2021. In a number of cities, the MLPD had more voters than ever before. We had a slight increase in second votes, from 17,994 to 19,876. Each of these votes was fought for in a complicated situation and against a headwind.

The ruling class mobilized the petty-bourgeois parliamentary mode of thinking against the influence of the MLPD. People were downright urged not to vote out of deep conviction, but to vote tactically. So every vote for the MLPD meant freeing oneself from illusions in bourgeois parliamentarism, which only serves to disguise the power of the monopolies. Among people who do not know the MLPD directly, petty-bourgeois anticommunist reservations were stirred up. Those who experienced us live, on the other hand, were able to get to know how socialism is alive in practice even today.

The monopolies demand a reactionary turnabout in Germany

A chancellor Merz wants to take drastic steps in the militarization of society and the preparation for world war. A new government, too, will advance the destruction of the environment, deportations, and anti-woman and anti-worker policies. The monopolies plan further mass layoffs and attacks on social achievements. This will challenge many people to oppose it! We will further develop the progress in alliance work in order to forge a broad united front against fascism. Especially in this situation of the deep crisis of capitalism, every supporter of our election campaign is warmly invited to join the MLPD or the youth league Rebell!
