Current Statement

Open Power Struggle in the Western Imperialist camp

Central Committee of MLPD,

Active worldwide resistance against fascism, war and social attacks!

The Central Committee of the MLPD has published a current statement under the heading “Open power struggle in the Western imperialist camp”.

Statement of the Central Committee of the MLPD

The press conference held by US President Trump, his Vice President Vance and Ukrainian President Zelensky on 28 February ended in a row. Democratic people all over the world are growing concerned about where this is all leading - to a world war?

The crux of the matter lies in an openly erupted power struggle, now also in the Western imperialist camp between the USA on the one hand and the EU bloc under the overall control of leading European imperialists on the other. This shows a new level of openly aggressive imperialist foreign and military policy. It means a further intensification of the acute danger of world war and the open political world crisis.

European imperialists, led by Great Britain and France, are putting together a “coalition of the willing”. Though they are calling for a one-month ceasefire in Ukraine, this explicitly does not apply to the ground fighting in eastern Ukraine. During this time, they want to massively supply more weapons to Ukraine and continue the slaughter. They are preparing to send European troops to Ukraine, which is a provocation to Russia on its western border. German imperialism is also asserting its claim to leadership in Europe. The AfD's fascist slogans according to the motto “Germany first” correspond to this. But Chancellor-designate Merz is also talking about Germany's “nuclear sharing” of French and British nuclear weapons. This is a dangerous play with fire. The masses must oppose this internationally!

The fascist Trump government is deliberately destroying the existing imperialist post-war order. Musk is even calling for the USA to withdraw from NATO and the UN. NATO, the UN and the EU are divided in this situation. The transatlantic alliance that has been praised for decades resembles a shambles.

Trump is pushing fascism domestically and pursuing a fascist-imperialist foreign policy; both are being pursued not least on the backs of the masses in the USA. It is almost reminiscent of old colonial times. Trump, Vance and Musk are promoting fascist forces around the world that support their course, such as Orban in Hungary, Meloni in Italy or the AfD in Germany.

The federal election was unable to end the open political crisis in Germany. The attempt to form a stable government between the CDU/CSU and SPD is like trying to achieve the impossible. Even if Merz does not immediately sign 200 decrees, a hard line is being taken here too.

All parties in the Bundestag - with the exception of the Left Party - agree that a gigantic military buildup program should be launched. It involves up to 900 billion euros, 400 billion of which is directly for the military, and a further 400-500 billion euros for “infrastructure measures”. They are also part of the “Operation Plan Germany”, which aims to make the country “fit for war” as quickly as possible. The so-called “infrastructure measures” include, for example, making roads and bridges suitable for tanks. Monopoly associations are also pushing this and see it as a state economic stimulation program for the benefit of the monopolies. Such an arms race means the transition to a war economy. Environmental protection measures and social gains that have been fought for would largely fall victim to this. The EU is already overturning its “Green Deal” and the end of new combustion cars from 2035, and the capitalist associations are bringing up one disgraceful social deed after another for discussion. Of course, because the money is being taken from the working class, from “ordinary people”, and environmental protection is being sacrificed. A new mass movement is also needed against this.

Next week, the CDU/CSU and SPD want to railroad the off-budget special fund through the Bundestag. With a voted-out government and its old majorities. A government that proceeds in this way does not deserve to be given a chance, as some say.

In this situation, the driving forces of the imperialist EU and leading European imperialists are also staking their claim to global leadership. Over the past days we have seen makeshift attempts to prevent the transatlantic divide from being taken to extremes. However, their chances of success are extremely questionable.

Supposedly, the EU is tirelessly fighting for “freedom and democracy”. In reality, it is all about raw materials, profits, power and dominance in the spheres of influence: The US wants to dictate a raw materials deal to Ukraine - the value of Ukraine's raw material deposits is estimated at 14 trillion euros. Trump wants to secure US imperialism's access to Ukraine's rare earths, important metals and oil and gas resources and make the Ukrainian people bleed for it. But even before the war, the EU had already made clear its “interest” in profits from the “selfless reconstruction” of Ukraine, as well as Ukraine's raw materials, and came to an agreement with Kiev in 2021 to exploit them. In the middle of last year, the CDU's Konrad Adenauer Foundation boldly declared Ukraine to be an “area of interest for the EU” because of its “geo-economic raw material base for a number of strategic key industries in Western Europe”.

After three years and hundreds of thousands of casualties, the war in Ukraine is clearly at an impasse. War fatigue and even mass desertion are spreading, particularly on the Ukrainian side, while Russia is using prisoners and North Korean soldiers as cannon fodder, alongside the forced recruitment of new forces.

Trump is backing an imperialist dictatorial peace together with the fascist Putin and at the expense of the Ukrainian population and the imperialist interests of the EU. This also serves to shift the central military forces to a future war with social-imperialist China. US military bases are already being reactivated and expanded in the Pacific.

At the Security Conference in Munich on 14 February 2025, the new President of the most important monopoly association BDI, Peter Leibinger, gave a speech under the motto “Defense is a question of attitude”. He called for “active participation by all” in the preparation for war. “We need such a liberation and clarification of thought and action“. The manipulation of public opinion is to be stepped up in order to stir up a militaristic mood in the country, especially among the youth. The ultra-reactionary Merz is calling for an end to any “left-wing” influence in society. In cooperation with the AfD, the CDU is attacking the non-profit status of anti-fascist organizations. The justified indignation of democratic masses in Europe about Donald Trump's outrageous actions is to be channeled into support for the European military buildup and militarization of societies.

Fight militarism and social chauvinism in all areas: militarily, economically, politically and ideologically. Don't give anticommunism a chance!

It is a common concern of the working class and the masses of the people of the world to oppose the fascist danger, preparations for world war and intensified environmental destruction promoted by the USA. In doing so, we must not allow ourselves to be harnessed to any imperialist cart.

The MLPD is in favor of a ceasefire and an immediate end to the acts of war in this unjust war, both from the side of NATO and Zelenskyi as well as Russia. Immediate stop of arms deliveries to Ukraine. Against imperialist peace dictates. A just peace can only come about when the people speak for themselves and the dictatorial regimes of Ukraine and Russia are eliminated.

Enduring prospects for the future are only possible with revolutionary changes against the rule of the warmongers. “Make socialism great again!” is also the appropriate response to this open world crisis!

Active worldwide resistance against fascism, arms race and social attacks is necessary. Away with the gigantic military buildup programs! In this spirit the MLPD advocates broad alliances. The

MLPD proposes initiatives to take to the streets next week at 6 pm in the evening before a planned Bundestag resolution on an “off-budget fund”. It promotes internationally coordinated resistance actions. It calls for raising women's political voice of protest and resistance broadly on 8 March, International Women's Day – from religion to revolution, against the reactionary undermining of women's rights attained in struggle! At the trade union demonstrations on 15 March, an important issue must be that the working class takes its leading role against fascism and war. The Easter marches and the 80th anniversary of the victory over Hitlerite fascism on 8 May are also becoming increasingly important.

It is the time of proletarian internationalism and the international united front against war, fascism and environmental destruction. Instead of US or EU chauvinism – Make socialism great again! Strengthen the self-run organizations of the masses and get organized in the MLPD and its youth league Rebell.
