Rojava Communists Protest Israeli Attack on Handala Ship, Demand Immediate Release of Detainees

Hesekê, Rojava – July 28, 2025
Communists from Rojava have condemned the Israeli military assault on the Handala ship, which set out to break the blockade of Gaza and deliver humanitarian aid. Protesters demanded the immediate release of all detained activists, declaring the blockade and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza as acts of torture and oppression.
The Communist Revolutionary Movement (TKŞ) held a press statement at their offices in Hesekê, displaying powerful images of the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza. Speaking during the action, Ehmed Xidir, a member of the TKŞ Hesekê Council, emphasized that imperialist and colonialist powers have perpetuated continuous war in the Middle East, subjecting poor communities to nothing but war, death, hunger, and slavery.
“In the last two years, the genocidal state of Israel has devastated Gaza. Not even a single building remains intact—not even hospitals. The people of Gaza are completely surrounded, and the Israeli army is actively blocking aid deliveries,” Xidir stated.
‘Israel is Committing Genocide and Crimes Against Humanity in Gaza – Enough is Enough!’
Highlighting that famine has now taken hold in the besieged Gaza Strip, Xidir pointed out that dozens have already died from hunger, adding:
“No aid sent to Gaza is allowed through. The occupying Israeli state has shut down every route. There is no water, no medicine, and no bread in Gaza. This is not just oppression—it is torture.”
Expressing that Rojava’s communists will no longer remain silent, Xidir continued:
“From the beginning, we have supported the revolutionary resistance forces fighting for the liberation of Palestine. We demand equality, justice, and freedom for the oppressed peoples of the Middle East, including the Palestinian and Kurdish peoples. Israel, which watched the civil war in Syria for years in silence, now threatens the Damascus government under the guise of protecting the Druze in Sweida, while committing genocide in Gaza. Enough is enough—the people of Gaza must be allowed to live freely on their own land.”
‘Freedom for the Handala Ship!’
Commenting on the Handala, which was attacked en route to Gaza while carrying humanitarian supplies, Xidir said:
“Despite all obstacles, we salute the brave initiative of pro-Palestinian activists who attempted to deliver aid to Gaza. The Israeli state stormed the Handala, arrested all those on board, and detained our friends. We condemn this attack and demand the immediate release of everyone who was taken from the ship.”
‘Call to the Peoples of the Middle East: Unite Resistance for a Free Future’
Concluding the statement, Xidir issued a call to all peoples of the Middle East:
“Imperialists, colonizers, and their collaborators continue to set the region on fire for their own gain. Our Druze people in Sweida, resisting HTS, ISIS, and Al-Qaeda, have once again shown that resistance is the only way to win. The only friends of the poor are the oppressed peoples of other nations.”
“From Gaza to Beirut, from Sweida to Latakia, from Aleppo to Qamishlo, from Sinjar to Sulaymaniyah, from Urmia to every corner of the Middle East, our peoples must unite their struggles for a free future. We salute the Palestinians who refuse to abandon their land in the face of Israeli terror. To ensure the victory of the Palestinian people and protect the future of our Rojava revolution, the resistance must grow.”
The press conference concluded with chants of:
“Long live the resistance of the peoples of the Middle East!”
“Long live free Palestine!”“Long live free Kurdistan!"
