Solidarity with the people of Cameroon! Immediate release of the arrested Titchio Florence!
On October 26, people all over Cameroon protested for the recognition of Issa Tchiroma Bakary's election victory. Since the announcement of Paul Biya's re-election, there have been nationwide protests in which more than 100 people have been arrested and at least six killed by the gendarmerie. According to the latest information from the UPC-Manidem leadership, a UPC-Manidem comrade was kidnapped by army troops in the last few days and taken to Douala's New-Bell prison without being charged. She is Madame Titchio Florence, a teacher at the vocational school of Douala Koumassi.
The ICOR organization UPC-MANIDEM (Union des Populations du Cameroun – Manifeste National pour l'Instauration de la Démocratie) is an active part of the mass protests (not to be confused with an electoral alliance called Union pour le Changement (UPC). The young generation is a major force in the mass protests. It rejected the election result and the entire opposition agreed to demonstrate within 48 hours to defend the opposition's victory.
Activists, lawyers, human rights organizations are protesting against the dictator Biya, who is taking deadly shots against the people who are angry about the election fraud. There are serious injuries and deaths, as evidenced by numerous photos. The activists are also appealing to the French government, as weapons from France are being used that were delivered to Cameroon in 2023 as part of military cooperation with the dictatorship.
The "Ville morte" action is being called from Monday 3rd to Wednesday 5th November. All stores and businesses are to remain closed and everyone is to stay at home. The people are decisive in the country and the economy! Their will that Biya should step down must not be trampled underfoot.
The ICOR is in solidarity with the protesting masses of Cameroon. It supports the struggle of the masses in Cameroon for a change of government as a signal against the corrupt, feudal claim to power of the autocratic President Biya.
We demand the immediate release of all arrested activists and all arrested protesters! Those responsible for the killing of demonstrators must be brought to justice.
The ICOR organization UPC-Manidem also calls for vigilance and a long struggle for democracy. It writes:
»For Issa Tchiroma, the voice of the Cameroonian people, who have suffered enormously for 43 years, is not a blank check: it is about change. It is not about expecting another 43 years of dictatorship, youth unemployment, embezzlement and wars after an election after so many years of decline, change goes through a phase of political transition (TP). This is inevitable.« (Declaration of October 21, 2025)
We call on all ICOR members and all internationalists worldwide to support the demand for the immediate release of all those arrested and to organize protests in front of the embassies of Cameroon worldwide!
Strengthen the ICOR and its member organizations!
Solidarity is the tenderness of peoples!
Long Live international solidarity!
