Joint Press Statement
We, the Communist and Leftist Parties of Nepal, jointly condemn and denounce the military attack on the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela on January 3, 2026, by U.S. imperialism, as well as the kidnapping of the constitutionally elected President Nicolás Maduro Moros and the First Lady and Bolivarian leader Cilia Flores, who were taken to the United States. This constitutes a blatant attack on the Charter of the United Nations, international law, the self-determination of nations, and the sovereignty of peoples.
We strongly oppose the threats made by the U.S. Trump administration to militarily attack not only Venezuela but also other sovereign nations. Such military attacks and threats undermine the foundations of world peace, multilateral diplomacy, and international coexistence, and legitimize tyranny reminiscent of the colonial era.
Venezuela is not an isolated country. It is an active, respected, and important member of the Non-Aligned Movement, which has historically raised its voice against authoritarianism, military alliances, and hegemonic intervention. This attack is not only an attack on Venezuela but also on the entire Non-Aligned Movement, the multipolar world order, sovereign states, and independent foreign policies.
The Bolivarian Movement is a people-oriented and socialist-oriented program born from the struggles of workers, peasants, Indigenous peoples, women, youth, and oppressed classes. It is clear that the attack on Venezuela is not motivated by concerns related to drug trafficking, arms, terrorism, or other such claims, but by the desire to seize natural resources, including minerals. This is why Western countries led by the United States have long resorted to economic blockades, unilateral coercive sanctions, political destabilization, failed coup attempts, and various conspiracies—ultimately escalating to acts such as open military attacks and kidnappings. These actions are not only gross violations of international law but also grave challenges to human civilization.
In this context, we firmly and clearly put forward the following demands:
The baseless charges of drug trafficking, arms trafficking, and terrorism against President Nicolás Maduro Moros and his wife, Bolivarian leader Cilia Flores, must be dropped, and they must be released immediately, unconditionally, and safely.
The constitutional government and national sovereignty of Venezuela must be fully respected.
All forms of U.S. military aggression, political interference, and economic blockade against Venezuela must be immediately ended.
All unilateral and oppressive sanctions imposed by the U.S. Trump administration on the Venezuelan people must be lifted, ensuring the people’s right to self-determination, free development, and trade.
We express our strong international solidarity with the Government and the courageous people of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, and call upon the member states of the Non-Aligned Movement, the United Nations, and international progressive, democratic, socialist, and anti-imperialist forces—as well as workers, peasants, youth, and intellectuals worldwide—to struggle, unite, and take collective and diplomatic initiatives against U.S. intervention, the kidnapping of the Head of State of the sovereign nation of Venezuela, and the threat of war. The defense of peace, sovereignty, and the socialist alternative has become a common responsibility of all humanity today.
Stop imperialist wars and threats.
Fully respect the sovereignty and right of Venezuela to self-determination.
Let us protect the freedom and dignity of the Non-Aligned Movement.
Long live international solidarity with the Bolivarian Movement.
