Organize solidarity with those affected by the earthquake in Venezuela
DeepL translation
Dear Comrades,
Our Venezuelan comrades have informed us about the situation following the earthquakes in Venezuela. This demonstrates ICOR’s solidarity and connection with the pressing events taking place around the world. I am forwarding their letter to you. Please organize solidarity efforts on their behalf.
Warm regards and in solidarity,
Monika Gärtner-Engel, Chief Coordinator.
Information from the comrades:
Dear Comrades, it is with deep concern that we confirm the grave situation facing our Venezuelan people, especially in Caracas, La Guaira, and other cities in the central part of the country, caused by the two earthquakes and multiple aftershocks that have occurred since June 24, 2026. These events have resulted in the destruction of homes, buildings, and infrastructure in the capital of the Republic, the central coast, and other coastal areas, affecting residential buildings, the “Simón Bolívar” International Airport, the hotel network along the Falcon Coast, as well as several central states of the country.
The death toll is already in the hundreds, with thousands injured; in addition, there are a large number of missing persons who are presumed to be trapped under the rubble, as well as hundreds of homes rendered uninhabitable.
Fortunately, the Party has not yet suffered any human or material losses; however, some of our friends and loved ones—or their families—have suffered material damage, which is why solidarity is now a revolutionary duty.
The interim government has declared a state of emergency and suspended non-essential activities, including school operations and those of certain institutions. It is worth noting that the earthquakes occurred precisely on a non-working holiday commemorating the Battle of Carabobo, which sealed Venezuela’s independence; for this reason, the vast majority of families were at home, thereby increasing the tragedy and the number of fatalities and missing persons due to the building collapses.
Our mass organizations have launched solidarity efforts for those affected, providing lodging and food for people who wish to travel from Caracas to our areas of greatest organizational strength; therefore, we require financial solidarity to cover the costs of these efforts.
Similarly, we believe that moral solidarity is crucial—through communication and public exposure, in the midst of this difficult situation—regarding the intentions of the fascist-Zionist imperialism of the U.S.-EU bloc to conceal, under the guise of solidarity, its plan to deploy troops from the Southern Command to operate in the affected areas and “help” in the wake of the events. HISTORICAL EXPERIENCE HAS TAUGHT THE PEOPLES OF THE WORLD WHAT THIS TYPE OF U.S. “AID” ULTIMATELY BECOMES, so it is important to warn that U.S. imperialism, together with its partners, will not hesitate for a second to take advantage of this situation to strengthen its military presence and control over the government—and that the only ones to benefit will be them, not the Venezuelan people.
We will gladly receive your expressions of solidarity toward our party, through which we can provide concrete assistance and spread the Marxist-Leninist ideal of practical solidarity with the people of Venezuela who are resisting and fighting.
We are convinced that our heroic people, who have had to endure so many adversities, will once again overcome this difficult situation they face with the help of our comrades in the struggle.
Fraternal greetings.
