Statement on Trump's plans for Gaza and Hamas policy

NCP Mashal, Nepal,

The Nepal Communist Party (Masal) expresses strong objection and protest against the statement made by U.S. President Trump, in which he declared his intention to expel Palestinians from the Gaza Strip and establish U.S. control there.

The State of Israel was established by expelling Palestinians from their homeland with U.S. support. Since then, Israel has openly backed U.S. imperialism in the Gulf countries and has survived with U.S. assistance. While we do not believe that the State of Israel should be entirely abolished in the current situation and accept its existence, we firmly support the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state. We have always opposed, and continue to oppose, any action aimed at eliminating Palestine. At the same time, we strongly condemn the U.S. imperialist plan to completely remove Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.

The forced displacement of Palestinians from their homeland remains one of the most severe and brutal acts in human history. Since then, they have been living as refugees in various Gulf countries, struggling for the liberation of their homeland for over seven decades. According to United Nations resolutions, Palestinians had the right to reside in the Gaza Strip and maintain an autonomous government there. However, the U.S. now plans to remove them and relocate them to Egypt and Jordan.

Israel has carried out extensive bombings in the Gaza Strip to annihilate the Palestinian population. The Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, was undoubtedly wrong and terrorist in nature. We have consistently opposed armed actions against innocent or unarmed people worldwide and have denounced such acts as terrorism. Similarly, we have also opposed armed attacks or killings of innocent civilians in Nepal by Maoists or the ruling party. We have continuously called for impartial, high-level investigations into those responsible for such crimes and demanded appropriate legal action. In line with this stance, we also consider the October 7th Hamas attack to be wrong and condemn it.

However, Hamas’s actions were in retaliation for Israel’s decades-long unjust and terrorist actions against Palestinians. That, too, was wrong. Using the October 7 attack as justification, Israel launched a full-scale assault on the entire Palestinian population in Gaza, resulting in the deaths of nearly fifty thousand people, including a large number of women and children. The International Court of Justice has declared Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu a war criminal for this massacre and has issued an arrest warrant against him. Millions of Palestinians were forced to flee south due to Israel’s attacks. Following the recent ceasefire, they have begun returning to their land. However, after meeting with the Israeli Prime Minister, Trump has now expressed his intention to completely displace the Palestinians from Gaza. His stance is clearly imperialistic, fascist, and in violation of international law and United Nations resolutions. The U.S. appears to be pursuing control over the Gaza Strip due to its valuable mineral resources—just as it previously announced its intention to occupy Greenland for the same reason.

Trump’s position has faced widespread international opposition. Egypt and Jordan have strongly rejected his proposal to resettle Palestinians in their countries. Many Arab nations, the United Nations, and even several European and other countries have also condemned his stance. In this context, the Nepalese government’s response to Trump’s statement has become a matter of great interest.

Previously, when the war in Ukraine was debated at the United Nations, the Nepalese government supported the resolution holding Russia responsible for the conflict. While Russia certainly bears responsibility for attacking Ukraine and its imperialist policies should be condemned, the United States and NATO are equally accountable. NATO was originally formed as a military alliance against the Soviet Union. The West then installed a puppet government under Zelensky in Ukraine, pushing the country toward NATO membership despite sharing a border with Russia—ultimately provoking the war. Therefore, the U.S. and NATO are also responsible and should be criticized accordingly. However, by unilaterally condemning Russia, the Nepalese government adopted a pro-American stance, which our party denounced.

Later, during the UN discussion on the ceasefire proposal for Gaza, Nepal remained neutral. India also abstained from voting on the resolution, and Nepal seemingly followed India's lead. This neutrality reflected a pro-India policy. Now, in light of Trump’s declaration to remove Palestinians from Gaza and establish U.S. control, Nepal’s stance on this issue has become critically important. Whether Nepal supports the U.S. position or remains neutral, it will ultimately align with American interests. Therefore, we strongly emphasize that Trump’s policy regarding the Gaza Strip must be firmly opposed.
